TradeStation automated trading from alerts
TradeStation publishes an official REST API v3 with OAuth2. You apply for an API key at developer.tradestation.com or by emailing ClientExperience@tradestation.com, and a TradeStation account is required. The API covers stocks, options and futures. A SIM environment at sim-api.tradestation.com mirrors the live API with simulated fills. Nyria is adding a TradeStation connection. It is coming soon. You can test the same alert-to-order logic for free on Nyria Paper while you wait.
Official documentation
How Nyria will connect TradeStation
- 1
Apply for an API key
Go to developer.tradestation.com and complete the Request API Key form, or email ClientExperience@tradestation.com. A TradeStation account is required. Key approval involves an internal review; the timeline is not published.
- 2
Join early access in Nyria
Go to nyria.io/integrations/tradestation and add your email. Nyria will contact you when the TradeStation connection opens.
- 3
Connect through OAuth2
When the integration opens, open Integrations and select the TradeStation card. You sign in through TradeStation's own OAuth2 authorize page and grant Nyria the permissions it asks for.
- 4
Test on SIM
TradeStation's SIM environment at sim-api.tradestation.com mirrors the live API with simulated fills. Run a bot on SIM or on Nyria Paper before trading live.
- 5
Deploy a live bot
When SIM confirms the strategy, deploy a live bot on the TradeStation account. A bot on a live account needs a Nyria Pro plan.
What the TradeStation API covers
- US stocks and ETFs, long and short, with the account's margin and short-selling permissions.
- Options, single legs and spreads, at the account's options approval level.
- Futures, including index and commodity contracts, where the account is approved.
- The SIM environment at sim-api.tradestation.com is identical in structure to live but places no real orders.
How OAuth2 works
- TradeStation uses the standard OAuth2 authorization-code flow. Nyria never sees the TradeStation password.
- The access token expires after 20 minutes. Nyria refreshes it automatically using the refresh token.
- Nyria stores the refresh token encrypted at rest and can place and cancel orders but cannot move money.
Questions
- Does TradeStation have a paper account?
- TradeStation calls it SIM. The SIM API at sim-api.tradestation.com uses fake accounts with simulated fills and the same endpoint surface as live.
- When will the Nyria TradeStation connection open?
- It is coming soon. Join the early-access list at nyria.io/integrations/tradestation to be notified when it opens.
- Does TradeStation require a funded account for the API?
- TradeStation's FAQ says a TradeStation account is required. Whether the account must be funded is not stated in the official docs. Contact TradeStation directly to confirm.
