How do I test a TradingView webhook before going live?

Test in five steps, and no live account is involved. Paste the alert into the alert tester to see the order Nyria would place. Select Check format on the strategy so it turns Active. Then deploy a Nyria Paper bot and let TradingView fire a real alert. The bot's Logs tab shows the order and the fill. Connect a live broker after that.

Official documentation

Test a TradingView webhook in five steps

  1. 1

Try the message in the tester

Paste the message your alert will send into the alert tester. It shows the order and ticker Nyria reads, or the refusal it would give. Nothing trades and no account is needed.

  2. 2

    Check the format

Open the strategy's Integration tab. Paste one example message per side and select Check and save. The strategy turns Active when every side passes.

  3. 3

    Fire it on Nyria Paper

Deploy a bot on Nyria Paper. Create the TradingView alert with the strategy's webhook URL and let the chart fire. For a first look without TradingView, select Send under Sample alert on the bot.

  4. 4

    Read the Logs tab

The strategy's Logs tab shows how each alert was read. The bot's Logs tab shows the order and the broker's response.

  5. 5

    Go live

Go live starts a new live bot with the paper bot's settings. The webhook URL stays the same.

Messages to paste into the tester

Long entry, for the tester

{ "action": "OPEN", "ticker": "SPY", "direction": "LONG" }

Long exit

{ "action": "CLOSE", "ticker": "SPY", "direction": "LONG" }

Plain text

OPEN SPY LONG

What a test shows

  • The tester reads the message and sends nothing to a broker.
  • A Nyria Paper bot uses live market data and needs no broker.
  • A 200 reply with status processed means Nyria read the alert. Rejected and duplicate alerts also answer 200. The bot's Logs tab shows what the broker did.
  • A test alert reaches every bot on the strategy. Keep live bots off while you test.
  • Nyria drops a repeat of the same message sent within 30 seconds. It also drops one repeated within five minutes if no other alert came between. Change the text between tests.

Before the first live alert

  • TradingView sends webhooks on paid plans only, with two-factor sign-in on.
  • Set the alert's Expiration as far out as your plan allows. An expired alert stops without warning.
  • Keep the webhook URL private. Rotate token on the Integration tab replaces it.

Questions

Can I test a TradingView webhook without a paid plan?
Partly. The alert tester and the Sample alert button need no TradingView plan. A real TradingView webhook needs a paid plan with two-factor sign-in on.
Does the alert tester place a trade?
No. It runs Nyria's alert check only. Nothing reaches a broker and no account is needed.
How do I know the test alert worked?
The alert shows on the strategy's Logs tab. The paper bot's Logs tab marks each order Placed, Skipped or Failed.
Can I send a test from my own machine?
Yes. POST a JSON body to the webhook URL with only a paper bot deployed. The curl guide has the commands.
What does it cost?
Paper is free. Live trading from $15 a month.
