How do I connect Cursor to Nyria through MCP?

In Cursor, add Nyria to an mcp.json file: .cursor/mcp.json for one project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project. Set url to https://api.nyria.io/mcp and send your strategy's token in an Authorization Bearer header. Cursor supports Streamable HTTP servers, which is what Nyria runs. Start with a paper bot, because a live bot turns a sent alert into a real order.

Official documentation

Connect Cursor in five steps

  1. 1

    Copy the strategy's token

    In Nyria, create a strategy with the alert source AI Agent (MCP). Open it, select the Integration tab, then Show URL. The MCP server URL ends in a 64-character token. Copy that last part.

  2. 2

    Put a paper bot on the strategy

    Deploy a bot on Nyria Paper. It is free and fills against simulated money, so the first alerts cost nothing.

  3. 3

    Store the token

    Set an environment variable named NYRIA_MCP_TOKEN to the token, in the environment Cursor starts from. The config below reads it, so the token stays out of the file.

  4. 4

    Add the server to mcp.json

    Create .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json in your home folder for every project. Add the entry below.

  5. 5

    Try a preview

    Open Cursor's MCP settings and check that nyria is listed. In chat, ask the agent to list your bots, then to preview the alert buy AAPL. A preview places nothing.

Config to copy

mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "nyria": {
      "url": "https://api.nyria.io/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:NYRIA_MCP_TOKEN}"
      }
    }
  }
}

What Cursor can call

  • nyria_preview_alert reads an alert and shows what Nyria would do. It places no order.
  • nyria_send_alert sends the alert to every bot on the strategy.
  • nyria_strategy_info shows the strategy's name, status and active bot count.
  • nyria_recent_orders lists the strategy's recent orders with status, quantity and price.
  • nyria_list_bots lists each bot's broker, whether it is live or paper, and its status.

Before an alert goes live

  • On a strategy with a live bot, a sent alert places a real order at that broker.
  • The bot decides the size. The message does not.
  • Nyria attaches no stop order to an entry. Closes come from exit alerts.
  • The token is the key to one strategy. Keep it out of shared configs.
  • Select Rotate token on the Integration tab to cut off the old token.

URL option

  • A client that only takes a URL can use https://api.nyria.io/mcp/YOUR_TOKEN with no headers. That URL is a secret, so keep it out of files you commit.

Questions

Where does Cursor read mcp.json from?
Cursor reads .cursor/mcp.json in a project for project tools, and ~/.cursor/mcp.json in your home folder for tools available everywhere.
Can I keep the token out of the file?
Yes. Cursor resolves ${env:NAME} variables in headers, so the config above reads NYRIA_MCP_TOKEN from the environment instead of holding the token.
Can Cursor place real trades with Nyria?
Yes, when the strategy has a live bot. The send tool passes the alert to every bot on the strategy, and a live bot places a real order at its broker. A paper bot only simulates.
How do I cut Cursor off?
Select Rotate token on the strategy's Integration tab and confirm. The old token stops working at once.
What does it cost?
Paper is free. Live trading from $15 a month.
