Guide
Why is my TradingView alert not firing?
An alert that never fires has usually expired, has a condition that is not true when the trigger checks it, or has hit one of TradingView's limits. Work down five checks: the expiration, the trigger, the condition, the script and the alert log. If the alert does fire but no order follows, the fault is further along, and the webhook checklist covers that. This page is only about an alert that does not fire at all.
Official documentation
Check why it did not fire
- 1
Check the expiration
An alert stops firing when its expiration passes. Open the alert manager, look at the date on the alert and create it again if it has run out.
- 2
Check the trigger
Once Per Bar Close fires only if the condition is still true when the bar closes, and TradingView waits for the next bar's first trade to confirm the close. A thin market can delay it, and a condition that flips back before the close never fires.
- 3
Check the condition
Read the Condition on the alert. An alert on an indicator or a drawing fires only when that exact condition is met, and a strategy alert on Order fills only fires when the strategy places an order.
- 4
Check the script
A runtime error in a Pine script stops alerts from that instance. Open the script on the chart and look for an error flag.
- 5
Check the alert log
The log in the alert manager shows each time the alert fired and, for a webhook alert, the delivery status in the Webhook status column.
Limits that stop an alert
- TradingView halts further alerts when more than 15 occur within three minutes.
- Your plan caps the number of active alerts.
- A webhook alert needs two-factor sign-in turned on and a paid plan, or the Webhook URL option is not available.
When the alert fires and no order follows
- The alert reached the webhook but Nyria read nothing it could trade, or the bot refused the order.
- The Logs tab on the strategy and the bot says which, in plain words.
Questions
- Why did my alert fire once and then stop?
- Its trigger may be set to Only once, or it may have expired. Create it again with the trigger and expiration you want.
- Why is my Once Per Bar Close alert late?
- TradingView waits for the first trade of the next bar to confirm the close, so a thin market delays it.
- My alert fires but nothing trades. Is that the same problem?
- No. That is a webhook or bot problem, and the webhook checklist walks through it.
