Why did my broker reject an automated order?
Open the bot's Logs tab in Nyria. It quotes the broker's own reason, or says none was given. The common causes are too little buying power, a missing permission such as options approval or margin, a closed market, or a strike that isn't listed. The Pattern Day Trader rule applies under $25,000. Nyria doesn't retry a rejected order, except a cash-account close rejected for a reason that clears by itself, which it re-sends once. Any other rejected exit leaves the position open until you close it.
Official documentation
Read the rejection, then fix it
- 1
Open the bot's Logs tab
Find the row badged Failed or Needs attention. Select Details to see the Broker request, the Broker response and the Raw JSON.
- 2
Search the broker's words
The row quotes the broker's reason exactly, so search for that text. Each broker's page under Integrations lists the wording it uses.
- 3
Fix buying power
Lower Budget per entry, close other positions or add funds. A credit spread exits as a debit, so exits need cash too.
- 4
Fix permissions at the broker
Options approval level, margin and crypto are account settings. Ask your broker to enable them, or trade from another account.
- 5
Fix the market and the window
If the broker refuses an order type outside regular hours, turn on Limit trading hours on the strategy. Entries outside the window are dropped, exits still run.
- 6
Close a stranded position
A rejected exit leaves the position open. Close it at the broker, or fix the cause and send another exit alert.
Three places an alert can fail
- The strategy's Logs tab, when the alert never became a trade. Unreadable text, a ticker not in the list, or a paused strategy.
- The bot's Logs tab, when the bot couldn't build the order. One share costs more than the budget, or the account shows less cash than one unit.
- The bot's Logs tab again, when the broker refused the order it placed. The broker's reason is quoted.
What Nyria retries
- One thing. A close on a cash account rejected for unsettled funds or a broker outage is re-sent once.
- Every other failed exit stays failed, and the position stays open.
- Flagged failures appear under Notifications, and by email if Trades email is on.
- Nyria Paper never rejects for approval, PDT or margin. A broker's paper account shows some of those.
Questions
- Why do I get insufficient day trading buying power on Alpaca?
- Alpaca refused the order under its own buying power or Pattern Day Trader rules, which Nyria can't see in advance. The bot's Logs tab quotes Alpaca's words. Lower Budget per entry or trade from another account.
- Why was my order denied for pattern day trading protection?
- The Pattern Day Trader rule applies at your broker on an account under $25,000. It is a broker-side limit, so ask your broker or trade from another account.
- Does Nyria retry a rejected order?
- No, apart from one close on a cash account that was rejected for a reason that clears by itself. Fix the cause, then send the alert again.
- Why did paper work and live get rejected?
- Nyria Paper doesn't simulate option approval, PDT, margin, settlement or order-type limits. A broker's paper account, such as the Tradier sandbox or Alpaca paper, shows some of them.
- What does it cost?
- Paper is free. Live trading from $15 a month.
