Auto-trade crypto alerts on paper and at Alpaca

A crypto alert is the simplest alert Nyria reads: a pair and a side, at any hour. This guide runs one from a TradingView chart or a channel to a spot order, free on Nyria Paper and live at Alpaca, and says plainly which venues do not trade crypto through Nyria today.

What you need

  • A Nyria account. Nyria Paper simulates crypto spot with no broker connected; for live orders, an Alpaca account with crypto enabled and an API key.
  • An alert source: a TradingView alert with a webhook, a Discord server you run, or a Telegram group or channel you run.
  • A pair Alpaca lists, written the way the alert source writes it, BTCUSD from a TradingView chart for example. Check format shows the pair Nyria found before anything runs.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Choose where to trade

Nyria Paper needs nothing. For Alpaca, open Integrations, paste the API key and secret from an Alpaca account that has crypto enabled, and pick live or paper. Charles Schwab and Tradier trade no crypto. tastytrade has had cryptocurrency trading disabled through its API since Jun 29, 2026, by its own release note, so a crypto order sent there is rejected by tastytrade and the rejection shows on the Logs tab.

  2. 2

Create the strategy and pick the source

Create a strategy that trades crypto spot and pick TradingView, Discord or Telegram as the alert source. Add the pairs it may trade. A crypto strategy on Nyria Paper can also run perpetuals, simulated; no connected broker trades them.

  3. 3

Tell it what an alert means

A buy opens or adds, a sell closes. A pair and a side are enough: there is no contract to name. A price in the alert is used as the limit when the strategy is set to limit orders, and read as a note otherwise.

  4. 4

    Check the format

Paste a real alert, select Check format, then Check and save. Nyria shows the pair and side it found. The strategy turns Active when every side passes.

  5. 5

    Test on paper

On the strategy, select Deploy bot. If the switch at the top says Live, select Paper. Set the Budget per entry, select Next, then Deploy on Nyria Paper. Crypto trades around the clock, so let it run over a weekend and read each fill on the bot's Logs tab.

  6. 6

    Go live at Alpaca

Deploy a second bot on the Alpaca account with the same sizing. Alpaca fills crypto spot at any hour, and the sell alert closes the whole position unless it names an amount.

What a crypto alert looks like

An entry from a chart, an entry from a channel, and the exit. No contract, no date.

TradingView, as JSON

{ "ticker": "BTCUSD", "action": "buy" }

Discord or Telegram, as a sentence

Long BTC here, 84,100. Target 88k.

The exit, from either

{ "ticker": "BTCUSD", "action": "sell" }

What the bot does with it

  • Reads the pair and the side. Check format shows the pair it found, so a chart's BTCUSD and a channel's BTC are both confirmed before the strategy turns Active, and both reach the same Alpaca market.
  • Sizes the order from the Budget per entry in coin, not whole units. A $500 budget per entry at a Bitcoin price near $84,000 buys about 0.0059 BTC; crypto is the one asset Nyria does not round to a whole unit.
  • Places a market order, or a limit order at the price the alert names if the strategy is set to limit. The fill, the price and the order id land on the Logs tab, at 3 am on a Sunday as readily as at noon on a Tuesday.
  • Closes on the sell alert. A plain sell closes the open position in that pair; a sell with an amount sells that much. The target in the Discord line above is a note: nothing waits at the exchange between alerts.
  • Refuses a short on spot. A sell with nothing open is a short, and spot accounts cannot hold one, so the bot writes the reason on the Logs tab and places nothing. Perpetuals on Nyria Paper can go short, as a simulation.

When the bot places nothing

Each refusal is written to the Logs tab next to the alert that caused it. Nothing is ordered on any of them.

  • The account holds less cash than the order needs. A dollar budget per entry always buys a fraction of a coin, so this is a cash refusal, not a sizing one.

The Logs tab names the amount the order needs and the cash available. On Alpaca it adds Add funds; on Nyria Paper it names no remedy.

  • A sell arrives with no open position on a spot account.

A short entry on a spot crypto strategy is not placed; the Logs tab names the pair and the reason.

  • The pair is not on the strategy's list, or the alert names a pair the venue does not list.

The ticker is named in the refusal on the Logs tab, and nothing is ordered.

Questions

Which brokers trade crypto on Nyria?
Alpaca trades crypto spot on a live account, and Nyria Paper simulates it. tastytrade's API has had cryptocurrency trading disabled since Jun 29, 2026, so a crypto strategy there places nothing until tastytrade turns it back on. Coinbase and Coinbase US are coming soon.
Does Nyria trade crypto perpetuals?
On Nyria Paper only, as a simulation. No connected broker trades them today; the venues that list perpetuals are in the coming-soon set.
Can a bot short Bitcoin at Alpaca?
No. Alpaca crypto is spot, so a sell with no open position is refused. Short only on a paper perpetuals strategy.
Does the bot trade on weekends?
Yes. Crypto has no session, so an alert at any hour on any day is read and placed the same way.
What does it cost?
Paper is free. Live trading from $15 a month.
